The Living Owners Program is available to dog owners who are permanently handicapped, incapacitated or otherwise incapable of caring for their beloved pet-dog. It is designed specifically for dog owners who have a permanent situational change which makes keeping their pet-dog totally impossible.
Client dog-owner participants will also include owners in rehabilitation centers, hospice, or independent and assisted living facilities that do not permit dogs-in-residence.
Incapacitated dog owners unable to handle their dog and seeking to abandon their dog by approaching canine shelters, for other than financial reasons, will refer these dog owners to the nearest participating Jazzy’s Place food pantry or CRiSP Regional Director.
Residence Providers will handle all visits with dog owners and establish a frequency schedule that is mutually convenient and agreed upon between the client dog-owner and the chosen Residence Provider.
Owners would have regular visits to the Residence Provider’s or owners’ dwelling, or wherever it is most suitable for both parties. Arrangements would be made for the maximum amount of time to be spent between client owners and their beloved pet-dog.
By mutual agreement with the client dog owner, the pet-dog can provide community service to patients in hospitals, nursing homes, in veteran’s or assisted living facilities where keeping a dog is not possible.
This would expose the dog into a wider world, and at the same time, give recognition to the owner whose dog jacket will bear the owner’s name.
A mutually agreed disengagement process will need to be in place, should the owner’s circumstance change and desires to maintain the pet-dog at home.
Pet dogs are extremely valuable companions to their owners. CRiSP provides dog owners with the emotional comfort of knowing that their beloved pet and lifelong friend will be well taken care of for the remainder of its life.
Those pet-owners who participate in the CRiSP program are welcome to contribute towards covering the costs for maintaining the comfort and well-being of their pet-dog.
